Welcome to Balduq

Fans of YS got some good news last year when it was announced that YS IX: Monstrum Nox would be coming West to the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows PCs, and Nintendo Switch. This installment looks set to continue the long-running success of the franchise that has been around since way back in 1987. It will stick to the action RPG formula that has been a staple of the series and bring a whole new story, brand new enemies and new interesting areas to explore. So let’s take some time to unpack what we know about YS IX: Monstrum Nox as we edge closer to its release.

Simple yet Compelling

In this iteration of YS we link back up with renowned adventurer Adol Christin and his partner Dogi as they arrive in the main area where the events of this title will transpire, the city of Balduq. This leads to his immediate imprisonment and will snowball into a narrative that will see the player become a powerful being called a Momstrum, fight a brand of enemies called the Grimwald Nox and try to uncover the truth hidden within the city of Balduq and the curse of Monstrum kind. There is a lot of potential for a great plotline here, sure, YS has fast paced and enjoyable combat but you still need motivation to push through to the end. It seems that the developers have managed to create enough intrigue to serve this purpose and I’m sure upon release we will see the full extent of what they have in plan for our favourite characters.

Scintillating Sound

YS games have had some of gaming’s best soundtracks, and that’s no easy task. The music of a game is very important and when done right really brings you into, not just a particular moment, but envelopes you in the games world itself. Since YS IX has already been released in Japan we do already have exposure to what the soundtrack is, and we love it.
